P. S. Science

Project: P. S. Science Elementary School Program

The Borstein Family foundation has supported P. S. Science since 2012. P. S. Science provides hands-on weekly science lessons in 8 Title 1 elementary schools, with instructional support for the classroom teacher. Lessons are aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards and approximately 2,000 students are challenged annually to collaborate and problem solve.

Each child who participates in P. S. Science receives a year-long, hands-on science curriculum provided by content and teaching experts, knows as P. S. Science Instructors. Each week, students receive a 90-minute STEM session that includes instruction in scientific inquiry along with an opportunity to engage in active investigation or hands-on exploration. P. S. Science sets itself apart from other STEM providers in that it is embedded in the classroom curriculum at every partner school, ensuring that every student receives the opportunity to learn. This is a meaningful difference compared to enrichment programs that occur after school or off-site, creating logistical and financial obstacles for low-income families.
