More Than Words, Inc.
The Borstein Foundation has supported the More Than Words Charity since 2009. More Than Words empowers youth ages 16-24 who are in foster care, court-involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business.
Young adults work approximately 20 hours per week managing online, retail, pop-up and wholesale bookselling businesses, running a high-end event space, and gaining critical life skills and work experience while generating revenue that offsets program costs. In addition to their business job, young adults are paid to work on advancing education and personal goals such as obtaining an ID, opening a bank account, finding housing, etc. Finally, after 6-12 months, young adults graduate and receive at least two years of proactive support in the Career Services Program as they apply what they learned in other jobs and education.
Graduates of More Than Words far exceed their peers with regards to their pursuit of education and ability to secure and keep employment. 94% of youth in the program and graduates have or are on track to earn a High School Diploma or equivalent, and 82% are working.
