Research Project: Melonoma Research and JWCI Infrastructure
The four year grant commenced in 2022 and will fund melonoma reseach at St. John’s Hospital. Prior grants have been directed to Dr Steven O’Day’s immuno-oncology research program as well as towards general infrastructure needs at JWCI. Immunotherapy treatment options that are enabling many people with advanced melanomas to achieve long-term survival. That knowledge is now being extended to other solid tumors. The template used in melanoma is being replicated and used to fight other cancers. This is leading to promising immunotherapy treatments for some of the deadliest cancers such as those of the lung, kidney, bladder, breast, liver, head and neck, and the gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems.
The grants have aimed to advance immunotherapy research on multiple fronts, recruit top tier immunotherapy researchers, facilitate clinical trials to apply the knowledge learned in the lap and improve diagnostic capabilities.
